About Spirited Travelers
When you think of traveling in Europe, do you think of:
The largest brick castle in the world, sand dunes and sunbathing on the beaches along the Baltic…
Or maybe …
A KGB spying station, a submarine in a museum and repurposed Zeppelin hangers …
Or maybe …
The winemaking tradition of Malta and liquor based on a 500-year recipe?
Probably not. If you’re like us, thinking of traveling in Europe evokes images of the Eiffel Tower, Rome, Amsterdam, champagne, gothic cathedrals, WWI battlefields, etc.
However …
Now that we live in Europe, we’ve discovered that Europe is all of the above. And more. So much more.
We hope you’ll join us, through these short photo stories, as we travel through Poland and the rest Europe, visiting amazing places where we say, “Wow, look at this!”
So how did we end up in Europe?
We’ve always been wandering spirits, so when we were presented with a job opportunity that would allow us to live and work in Europe, we quickly said “yes.”
Portland? Poland.
When we told friends and family that we were moving, the conversation typically went like this:
“We’re moving to Europe!”
“Aw, we’ll miss you but that’s cool! Where? Rome? Paris? London?”
“Poland.”
“Portland? In Oregon?”
“Poland. In Europe.”
“Really?”
We had the same reaction when the opportunity first arose. Poland? Sure, we knew the bare basics about Poland but it had never occurred to us that we could actually live there. That’s the attraction; think of all the adventures to be had while exploring Poland (and the rest of Europe).
We sold our house, sold our cars, divided all our remaining possessions into four groups for shipping and storage, got the necessary travel paperwork for our dog and away we went.
About this blog: Wandering with Intent
The definition of “wandering” is to “travel aimlessly from place to place.” We’re really not so good at the “aimless” bit, so we “wander with intent”: we go in the general direction of something interesting and open ourselves up to the possibility of being sidetracked. We have many interests ~ food, wine, history, architecture, whiskey, to name a few ~ so we become sidetracked quite easily.
